This has been a long cold winter with few (as in no) afternoons over 40 degrees (my criteria for finding winter emergence). I am now looking at a forecast for 40 degrees at 4PM on Wednesday….grab your rod and stoneflies and midges and join me!

Fishing is just a pipe dream for a few more weeks in NW Pa. Only got to 36 today and it doesn’t look good for the weekend.

    Steelhd789,
Actually yesterday it got up to 43 degrees at 3:30pm. I got on the river at 2:30pm and fished until 4pm. When I approached the pool (through 20 inches of old snow), I could see a dozen or so rising fish! I could only see a few midges in the air and on the water, but I tied on a #16 black stone anyway. My not quite healed knee kept me on the bank making it difficult to reach the risers, most of which were close to the far bank. Long story short, I caught 2…hooked and broke off another and missed several takes. Great, albeit short, fun and a welcome relief from this long winter.
